This deserves no sympathy

This deserves no sympathy, so I'm not asking for any.

A couple of days ago it was announced that the Creation/The One Ring.net (TORn) LOTR convention (called ELF) that was supposed to happen in Chicago this summer has been cancled. They said it was that they couldn't get enough of the stars to come. This seems odd to me as the event is still 6 months away - why give it up so soon?

In the mean time, the Creation/TORn LOTR convention (called ORC) in L.A., which is only 2 months away, which was showing only one star guest for the longest time, now suddenly has three. And that after the first one they had listed had to cancell. If the L.A. convention was going so long with only one guest that was certain, why didn't it get cancelled 6 months before hand?

Now, Billy Boyd and his band Beecake are all going to be at ORC.

That just happened today.

We were hoping for them at Chicago, but now there isn't going to be a convention there for them to be at.

Last year, a bunch of people were ripped off by a convention promoter in Minneapolis, MN. Billy was supposed to be there and the people cancelled the gig about 3 weeks before it was supposed to happen and have not refunded anyone any money.

I'm one of the ones that got ripped off. Many of us felt that the Creation/TORn event in Chicago would sort of make up for that a bit. Now we've lost that and Billy is going to be in L.A. - again.

I have gotten to meet him. I had that glorius opportunity, and it was a very good one indeed. A smallish occasion and I gave him a gift that really touched him. I really deserve no sympathy for being upset. It just really hurts with it coming after them cancelling the event in Chicago.

In other news. I'm trying to go to Scotland again. This is another reason that the above entry deserves no sympathy.

A buch of people I know are meeting over there the end of September. I wasn't going to go as we still haven't paid off Sarah's and my 2005 UK trip. But then I found out housing, breakfast and dinner will only be costing $240 for all 5 nights. And it's at a castle in the Highlands! I felt that was too good to pass up. Now I have to figure how to come up with the airfare and a bit of spending money, The $240 is the easy part and I almost have that taken care of. The airfare is another matter.

I have to get brave and attempt to sell some stuff on ebay - I'm just so feart of getting ripped off. But that is the only way I see of raising enough cash. I don't want any help from my hubby if I can at all manage it. He is paying off the last trip, paying off a huge bill for his dental work (that was very much needed), and we have Sarah's wedding coming up. He has enough to cover.

My friends Pipkin, Teriadoc, Grey Wonderer, budgielover and others are going on this gig and with the housing being so affordable . . . I just really didn't want to pass it up.

So . . .

NO SYMPATHY over the first part of this post.

I'll live, really I will.

If I could take you and everyone else that wanted to go and meet Billy, I would. I'm so sorry. :(

But honestly? I think the Scotland trip will be so much better and fun. ♥

Aw, thanks (((((Holly)))))

I know what you mean, I feel the same way. I wish I had the money to take myself and several of my friends. *sigh* Ah well. We truly can't do everything.

I just wish someone could sneak in a really good video camera and record the concert, or that Beecake would have someone tape it. That would really help a great deal :-)

Oh I have no doubt that someone will record the concert. I may try to record some, but I want photos too. Tough decision. :\

I will make sure that you get to see as many photos, videos, as possible if you like. ♥

Thank you :-) I really do enjoy seeing all the photos and stuff, even if I don't get to be there.

What's not to like about Billy photos? :-D

I was really disappointed to see the ELF was cancelled, too. It was going to be so close to home and so easy to get to. I think they cancelled to be safe. A lot of people griped last year over all the last minute guest cancelations and changes. No one seemed to want to committ to it. And, to be honest, I don't think their profit margin was a great as they would have liked for it to be on that one. About 500 people at a Creation event is very small. I'm hoping that someday we'll get a convention in this part of the country.

I wish I could go on the Scotland trip. I was hoping to, but between a severe money shortage and the fact that the Wee One, who I wanted to take too, has State-wide testing that week, there was no way I could manage it. I've paid for last summer's trips, but still owe on a lot of other things. One of these days I get over there, I hope.

Good luck planning the trip. Hope this one pans out for you. After what happened last year, you've earned it.

Oh, Garnet! I'm sorry you aren't making it to the ScotMoot! I was wondering if you were going to be there.

I just wish I had the $500 dollars on my credit card that I lost on that convention in Minnesota *grrrr* It would make the ScotMoot easier to manage.

I wish you and Wee One could be there.

*gives empathy since you didn't ask for sympathy* Yep. I wish things happened in places besides the West Coast!!! *grumbles a bit*
Nevertheless, I do want to add... I've never been ripped off on Ebay. I'd say go for it, but educate yourself first. Their help files are usually quite helpful. Good luck!!

I hope you do not mind but I just had to stop and say that I am glad you posted this because this is the first I have heard of ELF being cancelled. Just this afternoon I was thinking I ought to be looking up to see what the status was. This disapoints me greatly as this was one event I wanted to try and attend whether He was there or not. You have my understanding if that is more acceptible to sympathy.
