Hello,

I'm not doing as well as I had hoped with keeping up with my friends on here, but I think I've been a tad better than in the past.  I may set a goal of going through my friends page at least once a week.

I'm keeping busy.  I'm looking into the possibility of getting a Bachelors degree online.  Just not at all sure what in, which is why I've not gotten one prior to now.  I'm toying with Forensic Science, but might end up seeing if I can find a school that offers an online degree in English.  Don't know about the English though as I hate grammar. LOL  My other concern is that I won't have time to write if I'm taking classes.

I'm happily taking photos for the 100 snapshots community and also taking photos of birds.  Here's one I took of a Purple Finch.

I've no idea why they are called "purple" finches when they are red/deep rose colored, but that's what they are called.

Hope you are all well :-)

Hugs,
Pearl

Pretty little bird, whatever it's called and a great photo too!

Thank you GW :-) The stumps he's perched on are right outside my living room windows which has made it nice for getting close ups of wee birds. :-)

Awesome bird photo!! It's beautiful, though I'm a bit confused about the purple moniker.
Getting a degree would be great, and I think you can do it a bit at a time, leaving time for your writing. You should definitely go for, perhaps do Literature rather than English. More reading, less pesky grammar.

Thank you Mav :-) Another friend, Dreamflower, commented after you that, "They call them "purple" because the red is a little bit more purplish than the red on the "red" finch."

That makes sense as the bird isn't the same sort of red as most "red" birds.

It is looking that if I go for an English degree online, it will have to be in writing not lit. There aren't very many online English degrees available and the few there are are all writing. Online studies are very career oriented I'm finding.

Hugs!
Pearl

I see, the red is a bit more dusky than, say, a cardinal.
I don't suppose there is a community college close to you? I've taken several creative writing (and even attempted Italian, horrible failure) at our local community college. It's fun and gets me out of the house for a while.
I can see why online degrees are geared toward careers, but still it would be nice if they offered a wider variety.

There is a community college here, well, a branch of one, but most of the classes they offer at this branch are not what I'm wanting. I may check out the Jr. College here that I got my AA from to see what they have in creative writing. Though, a part of me would really like to get a BA. Not having one is something I've been rather embarrassed about for years.

You shouldn't feel any embarrassment at all, really. I have a BS (agricultural business) which I have no use for! I really enjoy the creative writing courses I have taken. It's really fun to be in a room with other writers and you would be surprised at the helpful hints which generally fly around the room.

They call them "purple" because the red is a little bit more purplish than the red on the "red" finch. (I'd think of them as "pink" more than "purple", but it's not that more scarlet-orangey red on the other finches.)

That's a good point, Dreamflower :-) I think you have it right. It is definitely not the same "red" as a Cardinal or a Scarlet Tanager.

Re: Great pic!
Thank you beecharmer!

Things are leaning toward English though Lit doesn't appear to be available online.

I took a photography class in high school, but not since. That's an interesting thought as well :-)

Re: Great pic!
I have just talked to someone from Univ. of Phoenix this morning :-) Because of that conversation I'm setting the Forensic Science aside.

They don't offer any English degree online. U. of Colorado-Denver offers a BA in English Writing. I don't know if it can be geared more toward Creative Writing or not.

The photography could be an interesting option as well, I should look into it :-)
